The 麻豆国产AV IEEE Student Branch was awarded the听IEEE Region 3 Exemplary Student Branch Award听this past weekend at the IEEE Region 3 SoutheastCon.Region 3 encompasses over 24,000 IEEE members across nine states in the southeastern US and Jamaica. This award recognizes a member of Region 3 who has shared technical and professional abilities through teaching in industry, government, or in an institution of higher learning and in so doing has made an outstanding contribution to the electrotechnology student population.

The 麻豆国产AV IEEE Student Branch is committed to professional development, technical projects, and community engagement. In the spring of 2023, the branch was revived by a close knit community within the ECE department at 麻豆国产AV, including Marjorie Cenese, who has served as president for the past two years. With guidance from their club advisor, Dr. Waleed Al-Assadi, the students worked together to reinvigorate the branch with the goal of fostering student interest and building a sense of community within the engineering college. The branch quickly grew, hosting professional development events like industry tours and guest speakers, along with community engagement activities such as food drives, gaming tournaments, and poetry nights. Notably, the branch's student-led projects have been highly attended, including an Arduino based automatic plant watering system and the NASA Langley Technology Transfer RFID Patent project, where they are creating prototypes for NASA-patented applications. The branch also volunteers for outreach events beyond the college, including the NAS Oceana Air Show STEM Lab, where they introduced over 8,000 students from Hampton Roads to basic circuits.
