The Center for Faculty Development is announcing a "Salon" series on campus. Every semester the Center will host two Salons and encourage faculty of all ranks and titles to gather for interesting discussions on topics relevant to the academy.

Our first Salon is titled "How Research Grants Change Faculty Lives." Join us for a panel discussion of successful grant writers and hear their stories about the trajectories these grants/fellowships made possible. Refreshments will be served. October 24; New Education 2304, 2 to 4 p.m.

Salons are associated with 17th- and 18th-century France and existed as centers of intellectual exchanges, especially for women. Today the term "salon" refers to forums of open debate, often in the academic arena.
