The Department of Physics at Â鶹¹ú²úAV (Â鶹¹ú²úAV) invites applications for a new tenure-track faculty position in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics with an anticipated start date of Fall 2018. This position is expected to be made at the Assistant Professor level but appointment at a higher level for exceptionally qualified candidates will be considered. This appointment will provide many opportunities for collaboration with the experimental and theoretical groups within the Department of Physics and at the nearby Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility ().

The Â鶹¹ú²úAV Physics Department (http://www.odu.edu/physics) has 21 faculty members specializing in nuclear and particle physics, atomic and few-body physics, accelerator physics, materials science and condensed matter physics. Â鶹¹ú²úAV is a dynamic metropolitan, residential, research-extensive public institution with an enrollment of 24,000+ students, including approximately 6,000 graduate students, and a full time equivalent faculty of over 850 of which 40% are women. The University's primary campus is located in Norfolk, VA, one of seven cities that make up the historic Hampton Roads region of Virginia. Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent in physics or a closely related field, be able to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and supervise undergraduate and graduate students in research. The successful candidate will be expected to establish and develop a new, externally funded research program in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics. Preference will be given to applicants possessing a strong research record and experience in low-temperature physics and investigation of electromagnetic properties of new superconducting materials in microwave or radio-frequency fields. We expect the new faculty member to be associated with the Â鶹¹ú²úAV Center for Accelerator Science and to contribute significantly to ongoing studies of new superconducting materials for the next generation of particle accelerators as well as to initiate new research directions.
